#14: Isabel
Heavyweight host Jonathan attempts to return a discovered suitcase of love letters to their original writer, Isabel, assuming she will be grateful to have them back. When he finds Isabel, she rejects the letters, not wanting any physical reminders of her past selves. The dichotomy between Jonathan and Isabel’s conflicting philosophies about identity, the past, and what we hold on to are the central themes of this episode.

#51: The Elliots
In one of Heavyweight’s most comedic episodes, the three Elliot brothers ask Jonathan to remedy a 500-year-old curse allegedly bringing widespread misfortune to their family
(and Elliots everywhere). The episode asks us to consider questions like: What is real and what is perceived? What can we control? And how far is Jonathan willing to go in his attempt to contact the Pope’s personal exorcist?

Heavyweight
#37: John
This is truly a heavy weight. John, a former hospital chaplain, reconnects with a pediatric burn patient who John spent his entire adult life believing had died. The episode encapsulates amorphous feelings of both loss and connection and explores John’s grief, his changing relationship with faith, and what it means to live in opposition to despair.

Heavyweight
#59: Etta
At nearly ninety years old, Etta is facing mortality. Her son is urging her to downsize, but Etta, like many artists, is reluctant to let go of anything. The episode follows Etta as she struggles to part with any of her belongings, especially her vast artistic bottle collection. Although Etta has passed away by the end of the episode, her calm yet fiery spirit captured in this episode and in her art lives on, touching all those who are still here.
